There really are funny Germans, not just in Mel Brooks' movies! And that's the subject of the new book published in August. High Bridge, N. J. resident, author Barbara Steingas, walks readers through many humorous incidents involving her German family in this 208 page non-fiction book entitled "Germans Are Funny, Too!" (Sub-titled "Stories of my Cuckoo Kraut Family"). It's not all funny though because she talks about her grandfather, Phillipp Schaffer, a well-known opera singer, who was imprisoned in Buchenwald in the late 1930's for "heinous crimes" when in fact, he simply was helping people because he disliked Hitler and everything he stood for.
